Debate Auditions to be held Monday, Sept. 11

All students auditioning for the 2017 MHS Debate team must sign up for an audition slot by Friday, September 8th at 3:30 p.m. The audition sign up sheet can be found outside of room 396.

Auditions will be held on Monday, September 11 beginning at 3:40 p.m. in Mr. Tichy's room (396). Please be sure to bring all required materials including your orange audition form. Try-outs should last between five and ten minutes; however, please be advised that delays may occur which could push back your start time.

Audition information discussed at the Wednesday, September 6th meeting can be found below. The coaching staff hopes to make final roster decisions as early as September 12th.

Debate Team Audition Resolution

RESOLVED: The U.S. ought to replace the Electoral College with a direct National popular vote." (This was the NSDA Public Forum resolution used last April).

Audition Items:

-Prepare a 90 second-2 minute constructive (introductory) speech either affirming or negating the resolution. Use credible sources from a variety of news outlets to gather your evidence. Look for recent information!

-Type and print FOUR copies of your prepared speech for the coaching staff. Be sure you bring a copy for yourself. You may also bring other materials you’d like the coaches to review (summaries, rebuttals, etc.)

-Practice your speech before auditioning! Be sure what you’ve prepared meets the time requirement (bring a timing device as well).

-Bring your completed audition form, including schedule and rehearsal availability.

-Bring any questions or concerns you may have.

-Coaches will conduct a brief (1-2 minute) interview after your presentation. Be prepared to answer basic questions about your interest in joining the team, speaking or writing strengths you demonstrate, and what your presence will mean for the overall success of the team.
