This weekend, five Moorhead speakers will travel to Denver East High School for the 2016 National Individual Events Tournament of Champions (NIETOC).

The annual event serves as both a Nationals preview and tune-up, as well as a celebration of champions from across the country. This year, more than 800 entries will compete in select main and supplemental categories.

To earn a spot at NIETOC, students must earn "bids" by placing at or near the top at select tournaments throughout the season.

Representing Moorhead at this weekend's tournament are Jessica Anderson (Original Oratory and Drama), Camryn Hodny (Oratory), Jack Mullally (Oratory), Alex Church (Humor) and Skyler Klostriech (Humor).

The tournament begins with an opening ceremony on Friday afternoon, followed by three preliminary rounds. All competitors will speak a fourth time on Saturday morning before out-round breaks are posted. Drama and Oratory entries will hold an octafinal round (top 60) while the others will advance only the top 30 speakers to a quarterfinal round.

Final rounds will take place Saturday evening.

An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. local time.
