In June, the NSDA Northern Lights District will send 25 speakers to Salt Lake City for the 2016 National Speech and Debate Tournament.
A record 19 of those speakers are from Moorhead.
Led by 7 seniors, the Spuds will represent Minnesota in all eight speech events for the first time ever.
Overall, Moorhead swept three categories--U.S. Extemporaneous Speaking, Duo and Oratory--including two-time national qualifiers speakers Jessica Anderson (auto-qualifier) and Abby Dahlberg.
Sophomore Izzy Larson double qualified in Duo and Program Oral Interpretation but, per NSDA rules, will advance to nationals with her Duo partner Devon Solwold.
The NSDA National tournament is June 12-17. A full list of Moorhead qualifiers is listed below.
The entire team now sets their focus on the final invitational tournament of the season this weekend before the MSHSL 8AA subsection tournament on March 31. The subsection team will be announced early next week.
