After two days of wall-to-wall rounds against many of the best speakers in the nation, two Spuds were left standing in the finals at Denver East HS. Junior Skyler Klostriech earned a top six finish against 112 competitors in humorous interpretation; senior Jack Mullally did the same against 144 speakers in original oratory. Klostriech became the first humorous entry from Moorhead to advance to a NIETOC final round; Mullally joins 2014 NIETOC finalist Katie Beedy as the only orators to make it to the final round.

Three other Moorhead speakers just missed the cut, placing within points of the top 30: Juniors Jessica Anderson (Drama, Oratory), Camryn Hodny (Oratory) and Alex Church (Humor). All three will compete at next month's national tournament in Salt Lake City.

The field of more than 800 entries came from the top finishers across more than 30 states--the largest tournament of champions in the country--and included previous national finalists and hundreds more who are qualified for this year's NSDA tournament.

Moorhead now takes aim at the final tournament of the year: the NSDA National Tournament, a weeklong event beginning June 13. The Spuds will send 18 speakers covering all eight main events.
