Another successful Spuds Invitational is in the books as speakers from around the area competed in 15 categories, including the national finals of Extemporaneous Musical Theatre.

In all, the Spuds earned 33 Mr. Potato Head trophies--awarded to the top three in each final round--en route to top finishes in 13 categories.

Moorhead now looks forward to an exciting month of competition over the next four weeks. March begins with the team splitting into two squads; many varsity speakers will travel to Lakeville North for a final tune-up before the National Qualifier tournament in St. Cloud the following weekend while several novice speakers will travel to Walker for the Chuck Beckman memorial tournament.

In less than two weeks, two dozen Spud speakers will compete with a trip to Salt Lake City and the national tournament on the line.

Each school in the NSDA district is held to a limited number of entries for the national qualifier tournament; Moorhead coaches will announce those speakers early next week. The Northern Lights NSDA National Qualifier Tournament will be held March 11-12 at St. Cloud Tech High School.

The Spuds wrap up the regular season with a trip to Roseville on March 18th and take a week off before the 8AA North Subsection meet in Bemidji on Thursday, March 31.
