With a smaller group traveling to Woodbury for the East Ridge Raptor invitational, the Spuds showed strength in several categories, sending more than half of their 61 entries to final rounds. In all, Moorhead finished in second place with 351 points, falling about 50 points shy of the team they bested by the same amount last weekend, Eagan.

Seniors Jessica Anderson (Drama) and McKensie Bedore (Storytelling) earned first place finishes for the Spuds, while Kenan Stoltenow (Drama) did the same in the novice division. A host of speakers finished in second place--Moorhead racked up nine runner-up spots on the day. They include: Devon Solwold (V-Drama), Solwold and Izzy Larson (V-Duo), Dylan Stage (V-Prose), Sarah Schulz (V-Informative), Amelia Bjorklund (N-Poetry), Anni Yoney (N-Informative), Neva Miller (N-Great Speeches), Riley Stallman (N-Creative) and Trevor Schmidt (N-Drama).

Hannah Maki (Storytelling), Izzy Larson (Poetry and POI), Megan Duchene (Ex. Reading) and Sarah Schulz (Prose) all took home third place trophies in the varsity division.

The Spuds now split their squads ahead of a national-circuit trip to Boston for the Harvard Invitational. Thirteen speakers will venture east for the three-day tournament held in Cambridge. Meanwhile, the remainder of the team will once again travel to Apple Valley for the StarTribune Eastview Lightning Classic. Moorhead took second place at last year's tournament.

Updates from both tournaments will be available on Twitter @SpudSpeech starting with finals postings from Eastview beginning Saturday afternoon, with all out-round information from Harvard posted late Sunday morning and continuing through Monday afternoon.
